Jersey's most popular baby names for 2018 revealed

The most popular names given to babies in Jersey last year have been revealed.

Sienna and Leo topped the poll in the Annual Statement by Jersey's Superintendent Registrar, which identifies trends in births, deaths and marriages.

The list below shows the top 10 names registered in Jersey, beginning with the most popular, for girls and boys in 2018.

  • Amelia / Jacob

  • Mia / William

  • Sophia / Noah

  • Luna / Joshua

  • Lilly / Charlie

  • Charlotte / Henry

  • Freya / Logan

  • Emily / Jack

It also showed that the number of births in the island went down by 16 from the previous year, making it the lowest number since 2002.

Other headlines figures from the 2018 report included:

  • There were 831 registered deaths, 15 more than in 2017 - the highest number since 2002

  • There were 438 marriages in 2018 - nine fewer than 2017. Religious marriages went down by 22, but civil marriages went up by 13

  • 38 marriages took place for the first time in outdoor locations following amendments to the Marriage and Civil Status (Jersey) Law which came into force in July 2018
