Prisoners in Jersey could have more help reintegrating into society following plans to build a pre-release unit.
The facility would be specifically for inmates who are due to leave the prison, to help them find work in the community after their release date.
It would be built outside the prison but in the grounds of La Moye.
The States are halfway through a major prison redevelopment programme. Over the next four years new education, workshop and health facilities are set to be built.
Jersey's Minister for Home Affairs Constable Len Norman says helping inmates to gain skills is an important part of their rehabilitation and reduces the chances of re-offending.
