Bomb disposal experts have destroyed a Second World War 105mm shell, found on a Jersey beach by a dog walker.

Robert Gale came across the explosive in a rock pool close to Elizabeth Castle, while throwing a ball for his dog.

He reported the discovery to police who carried out a controlled explosion this afternoon.

The beach at First Tower was cordoned off while the detonation took place.
