US Politicians will begin an official visit of Jersey today starting with the opening of Trenton Square in St Helier.

The square is named after New Jersey's capital city, Trenton, and has been built next to the International Finance Centre.

The Mayor of Trenton, Reed Gusciora, is expected to make a speech along with the Connétable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft.

The New Jersey officials have also been invited by the Bailiff to celebrate Liberation Day on the island.

The significant contribution Jersey played in the foundation of the most densely populated state of America is not as well-known as it could be, and I am hopeful that this small step may lead to all kinds of beneficial links.

The delegation will also meet representitives from the digital sector and tour Mont Orgueil Castle.

Connétable Crowcroft visited New Jersey in 2014 to represent the island on the 350th anniversary of the founding of New Jersey.

In 2015, US politicians discussed future trade links and cultural ties with States members.
