Broadcasting legend Sir Michael Parkinson is coming to Jersey's Festival of Words in September.

His appearance "An Evening with Michael Parkinson" will give the audience insight into his life and career, using archive footage from the Saturday night Parkinson show.

The evening will follow the journalist's journey from growing up in a pit village in Yorkshire to interviewing more than 2,000 important cultural figures on his show, which aired from 1971 to 1982 and from 1998 to 2007.

The event will take place at the Jersey Opera House on Friday 27th September.

Now in its fifth year, the five day literary festival will feature talks and events by visiting and local writers, as well as writing competitions and workshops across a range of venues.

Having supported Jersey's first Festival of Words in 2015, we have seen first-hand how the event has grown since that first year.

The fact that it is able to attract the likes of Sir Michael Parkinson demonstrates how the Festival has established itself as not only a flagship event for Jersey but also the wider literary scene.
