A new app is being developed to help islanders in Guernsey clean litter from beaches.
Coastal Clean Up will enable people to log the rubbish they find which will then be sent to servers and then onto the Guernsey Biological Records Department.
The data collected will allow it to see how much litter is left on the beach and if there is a trend in the items dropped.
Charles Christian, one of the founders of the app, has said it will have a game element to it where islanders can compete and earn points from the rubbish they find.
It is hoped that Coastal Clean Up will make record keeping of litter more efficient and save time.
The aim is to have settings which will allow islanders to take photos of the items they pick up which the app will be able to identify. This will allow it to gather data on the brands of litter that are most commonly found.
They hope to then target the companies producing the packaging which is being dropped at the beach to try and reduce it.
