Jersey's government and bus operator LibertyBus are investigating ways to replace the existing fleet with electric models.

The Infrastructure Minister has confirmed talks are ongoing, with a focus on finding ones that are narrow enough to cope with smaller island roads.

It's part of a bigger plan to electrify all 600 of the States' own fleet of vehicles.

We're in discussions with LibertyBus to electrify the bus fleet as soon as possible but obviously we need narrower buses so that's something we're working on. LibertyBus is very receptive to that so we are actually thundering ahead.

– Deputy Kevin Lewis, Jersey's Infrastructure Minister

Meanwhile details of a new subsidy scheme for islanders wanting to buy electric bikes is due to be announced in July.
