An exhibition has opened showcasing a "spontaneous collection of works" which have never been shown before.
"Nocturne" displays pieces created by Jersey born artist Jason Martin who has had his work shown in every continent across the world.
This is quite a spontaneous collection of works in that they're all works on paper, studies that I've made when I travel to other islands. These are works which are very private and have been set aside with no real intention to show up until the right opportunity. They're like a diary of my explorations of other islands that I've visited. These have never been shown before, they're hidden under-stories of my work practice, but never the less I feel a connection to them in a way which is quite exciting.
He is well-known for his monochromatic paintings, where layers of oil or acrylic gel are dragged across hard surfaces.
Jason was born in Jersey in 1970 and studied at Victoria College. He graduated with a degree in Fine Art at Goldsmith’s College, London.
Islanders can visit the gallery at Sommerville House from today (Saturday 15 June) until Saturday 6 July.
