The 53rd Sark to Jersey rowing race took place today, with over 40 boats battling the 19 nautical mile course.

They set off from Dix Cart Bay at 11:15am, with the teams from Jersey eager to regain honours after a Guernsey win last year.

For the teams on the water, fog, waves and temperatures in the high 20s added an extra challenge.

Jersey's Close Finance men's four crossed the line first - some way off the course record - but said the weather might have helped them.

Next home was a Guernsey men's pair - both previously competed in fours.

In the women's pairs, the eventual winners, Jersey Rowing Club, fought their closest rivals the whole way.

In the Le Poidevin Trophy, the inter-insular competition between Jersey and Guernsey crews, Guernsey retained the title.
