Jersey golfer Jason Stokes reached the last 16 at the English Amateur Championship, out of a field of 288 players.

He finished three over through 72 holes of strokeplay at the Hankley Common and North Hants courses to place 56th overall and make the cut for the matchplay phase of the competition.

The La Moye player then won through two rounds on Thursday and Friday before eventually falling 3&2 to Callum Farr.

The English Amateur is the national amateur championship with Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Casey among the former winners.

Overall I'm just really happy with my whole performance and I'm over the moon obviously to make it to the last 16. I played some really good golf and performed really well under the circumstances. I wasn't really expecting to make it as far as I did. I would have been just happy to make it into the matchplay.
