Sir Michael Parkinson has been forced to pull out of an appearance at Jersey's Festival of Words.

The veteran writer and broadcaster has had to cancel his visit to the festival due to a mild medical condition, which requires rest and recuperation.

Sir Michael was due to speak at Jersey Opera House on Friday 27 September.

He has apologised for the cancellation, but has promised to return to the island in the near future.

Obviously we are really disappointed to learn that Sir Michael will be unable to attend this year's festival. Full refunds will of course be offered to all those that bought tickets, and we thank all our supporters for their understanding.

We wish Sir Michael a speedy recovery.

– Jennifer Bridge, Chairman of Jersey Festival of Words

The fifth Jersey Festival of Words will take place between 25 and 29 September.

The event will feature over fifty events including appearances by Jenny Eclair, Konnie Huq, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Louise Minchin.
