A man from Jersey is setting off on a 25,000 mile cycle around the world.

Patryk Kucza will depart from Jersey on Friday 20 September, the 500th anniversary of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan's first full circumnavigation of the world.

Having previously cycled 13,000 miles around the Northern Hemisphere, biked across Europe and walked across the length of Britain, Patryk is no stranger to a challenge.

He is taking on the adventure to raise money for Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, visiting areas where the charity carries out its work across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia and South America.

I’m a lot less nervous than I should be. I feel really, really confident. I’m quite eager to get going.

The idea is to show people the work [Durrell] do outside of Jersey. As part of my cycle, I will be visiting Durrell’s field sites in places like India, Brazil and Sumatra.

– Patryk Kucza

Pat hopes his journey will raise the profile of the international conservation work carried out by Durrell - something the Trust say they are very thankful for.

“We are hugely grateful for Pat's dedication and commitment to Durrell. Pat is committed to raising awareness of Durrell's work to 'Rewild our World', inspiring others to connect to nature wherever he travels ”

– Beth Gallichan, Durrell Fundraising Manager
