Heather Watson is through to her first WTA semi-final in more than a year after reaching the last four at the Tianjin Open in China.

The British number two saved several match points on her way to a 7-5 6-7 7-6 victory over Poland's Magda Linette, ranked 42 in the world.

It follows her straight sets win yesterday over world number 22 Qiang Wang - the 27-year-old's first over a top-30 player since Wimbledon 2017.

Watson faces Veronika Kudermetova of Russia next and is already set to return to the top 100 in the world regardless of the result.
