Aurigny has apologised to its passengers who were stuck at Gatwick overnight.

The flight was scheduled to land in Guernsey yesterday evening, but was delayed due to a customer being taken ill.

To assist the passenger, we used up quite a lot of the oxygen that we carry on the aircraft for such eventualities and this meant that we had to replace one of the bottles before the aircraft could return to Guernsey.

Oxygen bottles – when carried as ‘cargo’ have to be treated as ‘Dangerous Goods’ – for which there are very specific documentation procedures which took some time to complete.

– Mark Darby, Chief Executive Officer

By the time the replacement bottle was installed, the flight was unable to take off as it would not have completed its journey before Guernsey Airport closed at 11:45pm - almost three hours later that its usual closing time.

Passengers were put up in hotels and re-booked for this morning. An extra flight was also added to try and minimise delays.

Aurigny says it would like to thank customers for their patience and apologises for the disruption caused.
