Children at St John's School in Jersey are getting their hands dirty today as they take part in Build It Day.

They will get the chance to plant their own food, immerse themselves in nature and take part in building a new greenhouse.

The school was one of 10 projects chosen to receive £1,000 as part of the Co-op's 100 day Community Challenge.

Unlike many other schools in the island, St John's does not have much green space or a playing field, it is hoped this project will engage the children in outdoor activities involving gardening, growing and nurturing.

The challenge began on 2 September and will run until 11 December, totaling 100 days.
