The 2020 Siam Cup will be played at Footes Lane in Guernsey on Saturday 2 May after Jersey Reds agreed to the hosts' proposed date.

There had been some doubts over the historic fixture taking place this year because of a clash with the Reds' penultimate league game of the season.

But following a meeting a club's board, Jersey have agreed to travel on the date put forward by Guernsey, albeit with their squad selection likely to be affected.

The Reds' Championship schedule runs later than usual this season because of the Rugby World Cup, finishing with a trip to Coventry on 9 May.

Jersey hold three of the four trophies contested for on Siam Cup day, having taken the veterans and seconds matches in 2019, as well as regaining the Siam Cup itself.

The Jersey Reds Board has met and agreed that the club will travel to Guernsey on Saturday May 2nd to contest the Siam Cup. It is unfortunate that the Siam games in Guernsey will clash directly with our final home league game of the season. We fear this will have a significant negative impact on the number of supporters and officials from Jersey who will attend the Siam, detracting from an occasion that is a highlight of the Channel Islands’ sporting calendar. But we recognise that circumstances have meant there is no realistic alternative to this date, leaving all concerned to make the best of it. Our Coach Myles Landick and his squad will be focusing on May 2nd as they strive to retain the Siam Cup following the win on home soil in May of this year, and our Women’s, 2nd team and Veterans squads will travel with just as much determination to achieve victory over their old rivals.
