A woman from Jersey says going sober has saved her life.

Jen Browne decided to give up drinking after years of experiencing problems with her mental health as a result.

In the past, she says she often blamed other aspects of her life for her low mood - such as her work or relationships - but eventually realised there was only one thing coming between her and happiness.

At her worst, she even contemplated taking her own life.

There was a time when I went on a hen do and I drank so much that in the morning when I woke up, I was slumped over my toilet seat and I just remember thinking this is not good anymore.

That day I decided that I was going to take my own life.

Luckily, it never came to this and Jen managed to reach out to family and friends who have supported her in her recovery.

To mark her alcohol-free journey, she has recently set up an Instagram page called Sober Jersey Girl, where she posts about her milestones and achievements.

She says it has given her a new sense of hope, which she is keen to share with others who have had similar experiences.

If I hadn't have hit those dark places that often were found at the bottom of a bottle, then I wouldn't have been able to realise that I needed to change.

I wouldn't change anything - I'm on the path I'm supposed to be,
