Purple Tuesday, an event which promotes accessibility and good customer service for shoppers with disabilities is taking place in Guernsey.

Across the UK, the consumer spending power of disabled people and their families is worth £249 billion. In Guernsey, it is estimated that this figure is £200 million.

Purple Tuesday will be Guernsey's second accessible shopping day which aims to highlight the needs of disabled consumers and promote inclusive shopping.

Organisers want to encourage disabled islanders and carers to "shop, eat out and take an active part in the community".

It's hoped the day will increase disability confidence in Guernsey in the run-up to the peak Christmas period.
