Campaigners are calling for more pedestrian roads to be lit, to make Grouville safer for those living in the area.

A petition has begun online to try and bring the issue to the government.

Residential areas and frequently used pedestrian roads such as Rue a la Don need street lighting. This will make it a safer area when having to commute to and from the area, particularly in winter months when darkness onsets before people usually arrive home from their working/college day.

The organiser of the petition believes that people across Jersey could benefit from more street lighting.

If there were street lights it would stop accidents and incidents.

We moved to the area a few years ago and whilst I love it I’m really concerned by how dark it is, especially during winter. It is an issue across the island, not just in Grouville.

It comes after a teenager was raped in the parish on the evening of Halloween.
