Jersey's government wants to increase parking charges and extend the hours in which people would be expected to pay.

In October the States released their Efficiencies Plan which stated drivers would see the period where they are charged for parking extended by one hour either side of the current system.

Taking the proposed parking charge hours to 7am until 6pm from the current 8am to 5pm.

The Council of Ministers have backtracked on that suggestion and now just want to extend parking times by one hour, from 8am until 6pm. It is also proposing increasing the cost of public parking by 5p to 90p per hour.

It is planned to be debated in the States on 26 November.

Per hour increase to the cost of public parking in Jersey.

An online petition was started calling for a rethink on plans to extend car parking charges in Jersey and reached over 4,000 signatures.
