The States of Jersey will not increase car parking charges.
Jersey’s government had proposed to increase parking charges from 85p to 90p per unit.
Politicians said it would generate an extra £700,000 for the public purse, under its plans to save £100 million over the next three years.
Backbencher Deputy Russell Labey had put forward an amendment to keep car parking charges as they are which was voted for 30 in favour and 12 against.
The Government had previously backtracked on their original proposal that would see parking extended by two hours from 7am until 6pm from the current 8am to 5pm. A petition was signed by over 3,000 people to call on the government to prevent the changes.
