A new marathon in Guernsey has got the go-ahead and will take place on Sunday 29 March 2020.

The previous marathon had to end after increased costs made it unaffordable.

The new course will start and finish at Castle Pier in St Peter Port.

Organisers hope that the marathon will encourage visitors to Guernsey outside of summer months, with previous marathons seeing 85% of entrants coming from overseas.

We have a stunning Island and a very scenic coastal marathon course, and so we are confident that this combined with professional management, will see us able to attract hundreds of runners to the Island, in what is a shoulder month, over the next few years.

Michael Quittenden, Distance.gg

There will be three categories to the race: a marathon, relay race and a fun run.

This is a fantastic initiative and we are delighted to see the return of a Marathon to Guernsey’s shores, particularly during the start of the tourist season in March, when there is excess capacity in the market. VisitGuernsey will be supporting Michael and his team by helping to promote the Guernsey Marathon to our UK and European markets
