Calls to stop work to remove the anti-tank wall at L'Ancresse

Deputy Brouard claims it has been a useful sea defence. Credit: ITV Channel TV

Any further work to remove the anti tank wall at L'Ancresse could be stopped for up to ten years.

The States had planned to remove part of the wall because of its poor condition.

However, Deputy Al Brouard who is trying to stop it, claims it would be counter intuitive spending thousands of pounds to remove it as it has been a useful sea defence.

The Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure is concerned to see an attempt to overturn a decision supported by the States Assembly at this late stage in the political term.

This will lead to significant costs in maintenance for the wall, which is being undermined by the action of the sea due to its location and lack of foundation. This would not be a good use of taxpayers' money.

The Committee will review the Requete in detail in the coming days and make a formal response in its Letter of Comment.
