104 items of litter were found on every 100 metres of beach in the Channel Islands during the Great British Beach Clean last weekend.

Across the British Isles over 10,000 volunteers helped clean and survey 437 beaches from the Channel Islands to Scotland’s Shetland Islands removing almost 11 tonnes of litter in two days.

173 volunteers cleaned and surveyed 10 beaches across the Channel Islands.

Organisers say that plastic, polystyrene and cigarette stubs were the most common things found.
