Four month delay for EU citizens applying for settled status in Jersey

People who have applied to the Jersey EU Settlement Scheme are being told there could be delays of up to four months before they hear back.

EU citizens need to complete the procedure if they wish to remain in the island after Brexit.

A large amount of applications were sent during September and October 2019, in time for the previously anticipated Brexit day of 31 October 2019.

Half of the 20,000 EU citizens in Jersey have applied to the Jersey EU Settlement Scheme.

People who fill out the application and meet its criteria, will be granted settled status if they have lived in Jersey for five years or more by 31 December 2020.

For those who have lived on the island for less, but fulfil all the requirements, they will be granted pre-settled status. Once they have completed five years in Jersey they will then be able to apply for settled status.
