300kg of litter collected from Big Channel Islands beach clean

A beach clean across the Channel Islands has collected over 300kg worth of litter.

Five cleans for the 2020 Big Channel Islands beach clean were held in Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney and saw 181 volunteers pick up more than 340kg of rubbish.

A range of items were picked up including toilet seats, car batteries and golf balls.

The Alderney Wildlife Trust, La Société Guernesiaise, Pick it up Guernsey and Littlefeet Environmental Jersey helped to coordinate the event. They say it is not only important to keep the islands's beaches looking spectacular but also to protect wildlife from litter pollution.

The charities have thanked those who have volunteered at the beach cleans and to look out for more coming up in the months ahead.
