It is the last day for Guernsey charities to apply for a grant from this year's Channel Islands Christmas Lottery.

Local good causes have the chance to benefit from the proceeds of the tickets sold which generally amount to £200,000 each year.

2019's jackpot of £1 million was won by a Guernsey resident.

The Association of Guernsey Charities say the proceeds from the lottery go a long way to helping many organisations in the island.

We know that many charities are finding it harder to raise the funds they require so the Christmas Lottery is an important source of funding for the charitable sector. We don’t want any organisations to miss this opportunity, and we encourage charities to consider their financial requirements for 2020 and, if necessary, submit an application

– MALCOLM WOODHAMS, CHAIRMAN OF THE ASSOCIATION OF GUERNSEY CHARITIES

A total of £218,118 worth of grants went to Guernsey charities last year from the 2018 Christmas Lottery.

This saw funding go towards 40 local projects with grants ranging from £400 to over £26,000. Over the past ten years more than £2 million has been raised for charities from sales for the Christmas draw.

Organisations looking to apply for the grant can do so online from the Association of Guernsey charities' website.
