Fishermen in Jersey are unable to work as trade with Europe has come to a halt because of Coronavirus.

Jersey fishing export company Aqua-Mar, which exports crab and lobster, says it does not know how it will pay its staff because it cannot sell to its main market in Italy due to the country's lockdown.

Company owner Tony Porritt says they export about 80% of the local catch to France and the rest of Europe.

We've got very very big overheads here, the fishermen have got overheads, we've got about 25, 30 families of fishermen which land their fish to us and rely on us and as I say, we've had no alternative but to say, due to the circumstances, we've got to stop.

We've had no option, but to speak to all our fishermen today, and tell them that for the first time in 40 years, we can't buy anything, we can't buy it, we can't store it, there's no point in storing it, because it's unknown how long this is going to go on for.
