A couple in Jersey have tied the knot at the island's Social Security office.

Polly and Terry Paine were due to be married at the island's registry office but when it was closed due to coronavirus, they chose to hold the service at Customer and Local Services at La Motte Street.

Because of social distancing guidelines, the ceremony could only involve the happy couple, their celebrant and two witnesses - who all had to maintain a distance of two metres.

Polly says it was a day to remember in such difficult times.

We are so happy and it is just that bit of good news we needed in this time of uncertainty. It was very weird - we had to adhere to social distancing with both our celebrant and our witnesses but we managed to have fun and make a day of it.
