Guernsey's government is asking islanders to avoid posting 'unhelpful' comments on social media about access to protective equipment.

The island's Committee for Health and Social Care says that rumours that frontline staff do not have enough surgical masks are leading to an increase in calls and emails to the coronavirus helpline from concerned islanders.

The Committee says there is 'absolutely no substance' to the rumours - and that the posts only increase fears among members of the community.

It says it received 3,000 masks donated by Credit Suisse on Friday 3 April, and 18,000 were delivered the following day. 250,000 have been ordered across six supply chains on the island

The Committee for Health and Social Care has asked local businesses who are able to source and donate protective equipment to contact the States of Guernsey procurement team, to add to the stocks of equipment already available on the island.
