Church of England asks people to ring bells for Easter

The Church of England Clergy have asked all Channel Islanders to ring bells at 10am on Easter Sunday.

With churches closed and services suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Deans of both Jersey and Guernsey hope the ringing of bells will mark the Easter festival and create a sense of togetherness.

People are being encouraged to play the sounds on their phones or loud speakers from the safety of their gardens and driveways.

Although, for the time being, we cannot use our wonderful buildings or stream services from within them, congregations and clergy across the Channel Islands are using the internet in really creative ways to stream and record services and we look forward to people “joining” us on Easter Day.

The Deans of both Jersey and Guernsey have also announced that services will be live streamed from homes, and pre-recorded videos will be shared on social media.
