Keepers at Jersey Zoo are hand-rearing a Javan green magpie - using a sock puppet!

As the birds are new to being in captivity, the team did not want them to start recognising humans, and seeing them "as friends".

So, after consulting with other zoos around Europe, they decided to create something that imitated the markings of the species, using different coloured socks and buttons to represent eyes.

Now, Durrell has posted a video on its social media channels to explain how the project is going.
