Late defeat against Dragons for Jersey

Jersey RFC lost 30-27 against the Newport Gwent Dragons at the away British and Irish cup match.

Despite a promising performance at the start from Jersey, the Dragons came back towards the end of the second half.

The Newport team lost a player in the second half to a yellow card for a Jersey try, so the dragons played with 14 for the rest of the match.

Nonetheless, a last minute try brought them to victory.

Jersey RFC Head Coach Harvey Biljon hopes to sign a short term replacement for Sami Fisilau whilst he is at the Rugby World Cup.

Fisilau has been selected to represent Tonga in the sporting showpiece that starts next month in England.

The scrum half will be unavailable until at least mid-October during the group stages in which Fisilau will face New Zealand, Argentina, Georgia and Namibia with the top two qualifying for the quarter finals.

That leaves just Jack Moates and Joel Dudley as recognised scrum-halves ahead of the Championship opener at Yorkshire Carnegie next week.

But Biljon is aiming to bring in a reinforcement, who is unlikely to figure at Yorkshire but ideally will be on the island before the campaign gets underway.
