A quarter of all households in Jersey are struggling to make ends meet.
The figures have been released in a new government study of the island.
Nearly one in three people said their financial situation was 'a little' or 'much' worse than a year ago.
The Jersey Annual Social Survey 2014 was completed by 1,600 islanders in randomly-selected households and asked questions about every day life.
One in four households reported finding it either 'quite' or 'very' difficult to cope financially, a proportion unchanged from 2010. Almost one in three (29%) said their financial situation was 'a little' or 'much' worse than a year ago.
