Gibraltar set to host 2019 NatWest Island Games

Gibraltar are set to host the 2019 NatWest Island Games after original hosts Menorca pulled out.

The International Island Games Association (IIGA) revealed last month, during the Games in Jersey, that they were looking for a new host.

Today it's been confirmed Gibraltar approached the IIGA and asked if they could submit a formal bid. Today that move has been approved.

It means Gibraltar have until the end of September to put in their formal application.

They last hosted in 1995.

It comes just days after Guernsey revealed they would be bidding for the 2021 Games.

I am very pleased to give Gibraltar this opportunity. It is the policy of the IIGA to give smaller Member Islands a chance to be the Hosts and it is good to see Gibraltar taking up the challenge.

– Jorgen Pettersson, IIGA Chairman
