Lowest unemployment level in Jersey for six years

Unemployment in Jersey has dropped to its lowest level in six years, according to new figures from the States.

1,280 people were looking for work in December last year, 110 lower than in 2015.

Deputy Graham Truscott, the Assistant Minister from Social Security says the decrease was down to the "success" and the "hard work" of the team behind the Back to Work programme, which recorded over 2,000 job starts in 2016.

70 per cent of these jobs were in retail, hospitality, tourism, construction and finance.
