Police are appealing for the public’s help to trace two men wanted in connection with incidents during the Manchester derby in December.

Police are keen to speak to one of the men after a flare was lit inside the stadium and the other in connection with the throwing of missiles.

Since the derby on 9 December 2012, police have been reviewing hours of CCTV.

Officers identified one man who was given a caution for his behaviour on the segregation line and a 17-year-old boy has since been charged with throwing a coin and bottle into a field of play and given a three year football banning order.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Peach, said: “Out of tens of thousands of fans packed into Eastlands that day, a handful thought it acceptable to behave in a violent and anti social manner.

“The area was full of families and some of the scenes witnessed afterwards have no part to play in the modern game and will not be tolerated.

“We have and continue to work closely with all our professional teams in Greater Manchester to make matches a safe and enjoyable occasion but when incidents, such as the small number witnessed during the match and at the final whistle occur, we will work together to identify and bring to justice trouble makers, which is exactly what we have been doing on this occasion.

“If anyone knows either man in the images please get in touch and pass on your information in absolute confidence.

"We are continuing our investigations but it is important to note our enquiries are focusing very much on the minority. The tens of thousands of supporters in the ground and who watched the game in the city or elsewhere behaved impeccably and should not be tarnished by the behaviour of a mindless few."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3521.
