A children's author has paid touching tribute to murdered police officer Nicola Hughes - with a book in her honour.
‘Policeman Pete and Nicola to the Rescue’ is among the latest batch of books by Barbara Hegab, based on the real-life stories of the former bobby in her home of Saddleworth. Many of the tales are drawn from true events that happened to Barbara on her Denshaw farm.
Barbara, 57, told the Manchester Evening News: “I met up with Nicola’s mum, Sue Hughes at a charity event and our paths have crossed many times since.
“She told me a lovely story involving her daughter rescuing, of all things, a little mouse. That just shows you the type of person Nicola was - a very special, courageous young lady.”
She has dedicated the book to Nicola, and her colleague Fiona Bone who were murdered by Dale Cregan in September 2012.
