Earlier last month the Met Office asked the general public to help them with name suggestions for the upcoming Winter season 2015-16.
Today they issued the final list.
To keep in line with the United States naming conventions, the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z from the alphabet will not be used.
Storm names will be taken from this list, in alphabetical order, alternating between male and female names.
A storm will be named when it is deemed to have the potential to cause ‘medium’ or ‘high’ wind impacts on the UK and/or Ireland (i.e. if a yellow, amber or red warning for wind has been issued by Met Éireann and/or the Met Office’s National Service Weather Warning Service (NSWWS)).
So it looks like Abigail and Barney will be the first to greet us this winter.....but will we see the wrath of Vernon and Wendy? Only time will tell...........
