A 12 year jail sentence has been handed down to a man from Fylde, Lancashire, who sexually abused three young children during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

At Preston Crown Court, Harold Burnett, 81, of Lytham Road, Moss Side was convicted of 18 historic sexual offences against three victims following a nine day trial in September.

The offences took place when the victims were aged between four and 10-years-old.

“Harold Burnett subjected his victims to the most appalling sexual abuse which took place over a number of years when his victims were all under ten years of age.

“This case demonstrates our tireless approach when it comes to tackling those who commit such abhorrent offences against children. We are determined to bring the perpetrators of abuse to justice, regardless of how long ago the abuse took place and when it is reported to us.

“The victims have shown tremendous courage in coming forward and giving evidence and we hope that today’s sentence and the conclusion of this case will go some way towards helping them to move forward with their lives in the knowledge that Burnett will be spending a significant number of years in jail.”
