The RSPCA is appealing for people to come forward after a man was seen attacking a dog in Runcorn yesterday.

Members of the public witnessed the man kick and punch a brindle and white Staffordshire bull terrier in the head numerous times, slamming the dog to the ground and holding him by his neck over a bridge near Brookvale Avenue at around 8.35am.

The man then made his way to Penare and down a pathway towards Redruth Close.

RSPCA inspector Naomi Norris said:

I am very concerned about the dog's welfare and at the moment it is our priority to find out where this dog is. There would have been more people who saw this man and his dog either before the attack, during or afterwards. Before the attack, the man was in Costcutters in Northwich Road. The dog, which was wearing a red collar, was not on a lead and kept running up to people. The man is around 5ft 8ins tall, stocky build with short shaven hair and is in his late 20s to mid 30s. He was wearing a blue tracksuit top and grey tracksuit bottoms. It is so important that we urgently check on the welfare of this dog so if you know who this man is, please contact us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018.
