Dramatic RNLI rescue for man who fell from the sea wall

A man has been rescued by RNLI volunteers after he fell from the sea wall in Blackpool.

Members of the public raised the alarm after throwing life rings towards the casualty when the incident happened on the North Shore at 1.30am today.

The RNLI lifeboat was dispatched and crews pulled the man to safety before he was placed in a waiting ambulance.

A spokeswoman for the RNLI said the man fell accidentally and was treated for the effects of the cold but otherwise unharmed.

"The man that we rescued this evening was very lucky indeed.

"Had it not been for the quick thinking of the members of the public who called 999 and threw life rings to him we might not have reached him in time."
