A man has been taken to hospital following a gas explosion in Gorton, Manchester.

Fire crews are currently at the scene of the explosion.

A two-storey terraced house is believed to have been damaged in the incident on Abbey Hey Lane.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, police and the ambulance service are currently at the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service told the Manchester Evening News:

It is a fire involving a two storey terraced property.

There has been a gas explosion. We are using trauma gear to get into the building.

A primary search has not started yet because it is unsafe.

Residents in the area have reported seeing thick clouds of smoke and a large number of fire engines at the scene.

A worker at nearby Yummy’s Cafe told the Manchester Evening News:

“There are fire engines everywhere. It is still smoking and there are still fire engines there.

“I heard a bang. I thought it was someone slamming a door at first, the shop sort of shock.”

Abbey Hey Lane has been corned off by police and closed in both directions between Constable Street and Vine Street.
