Parents who lose babies are told - help is out there

If you are a parent who has suffered the devastating loss of losing a baby - help is at hand.

Coronation Street has been earning praise from charities and media observers for their recent storyline - in which Steve McDonald and partner Michelle Connor are seen going through the horror of Michelle having a late miscarriage.

What made the scenes even more poignant were the real-life back-stories of the two stars involved. Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle, lost a baby son Archie at 23 weeks of pregnancy eight years ago. Simon Gregson has revealed he and wife Emma Gleave have lost 11 babies to late miscarriage.

Granada Reports has been hearing from groups who are working together to try to make a difference in providing care and support for bereaved parents.

More than one baby a day in the North West is stillborn.

Statistics reveal 15 babies are stillborn or die within a month of birth every day in the UK.

Help is at hand from child bereavement charities like Sands and Tommy's. The Honeysuckle team at Liverpool's famous Women's Hospital has also won awards for its work with bereaved parents.
