UKIP has announced their candidate for the role of Liverpool City Region Mayor.

Paula Walters, who is chairman of UKIP Wirral, is standing on the platform of wanting to put power back in the hands of residents.

Mrs Walters explained:

I can’t promise all things to all people but I can promise to make every penny count and listen to what matters to residents of the entire region.

‘I know there are fears that Liverpool will receive the bulk of investment and resources and I would ensure that they are distributed fairly across the region.

“There are many issues that need addressing and I believe that the views of residents, whose lives are affected by each and every decision are vital to those decision making processes.

“I will continue my campaign to scrap tunnel fees which I strongly believe should be part of the road network, this is just another tax on the residents both sides of the water. Others talk of reducing them but frankly that is not good enough and they need to be abolished.

“And there should not be tolls on either of the Runcorn bridges when the Mersey Gateway Bridge opens. That will be an unfair tax of both local residents and business.

“I would do everything possible to help our small businesses and find it so sad to walk along our neglected high streets, once the heart of our communities, to see premises boarded up, with the the only sign of life charity shops, betting shops and payday loan businesses.

“I want to see our young people taken off the scrap heap and into apprenticeships to give them aspirations and a quality of life, not the zero hour contracts that ensure the rich get richer at the expense of our future generation.

“The rest is up to each and every resident and I want to be their voice, a voice that has been shouting for too long but not heard.”
