Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor is set to visit Liverpool for the first time this weekend. The popular city centre celebrity haunt Mansion has booked the fighter for an exclusive appearance on Saturday Night.
McGregor is currently one of the world's biggest sports stars and his meteoric rise has helped MMA become one of the fastest growing sports of recent times. In 2016, he became the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes simultaneously in the organisation.
The club night- named ‘The Grand National Afterparty’- is expected to attract over 1000 revellers and bookings are being taken in anticipation for a very busy night.
McGregor- who has over 11 million followers on social media- will fly into Liverpool on his private jet in the morning, after which the club have arranged a day of activities for ‘The Notorious’ and his entourage including being transported around the city in a fleet of Rolls Royces. After checking in at his hotel he will then travel to Aintree to enjoy The Grand National steeplechase before arriving back in the city centre for his club appearance.
Mansion owner Dean Jones spoke of his delight in locking down the megastar to a date:
Liverpool has a big Irish population which helped the deal come to fruition. Promoter Michael Ellis said: “We’ve got a massive Irish following, so many people come to Mansion from Dublin it’s ridiculous, and so when we got in touch with his agents they’d heard of the club and they were really keen to come here.”
