A 59-year-old from the Isle of Man has died in hospital after crashing his motorbike after the first TT race.

The rider, who has not been named, was travelling from Handley’s Corner towards Kirk Michael after the Superbike race around 5pm, when he collided with a Nissan motorcar leaving a driveway in that area.

A third vehicle, a Honda motorcycle, travelling in the same direction as the man was also involved.

The man was treated for his injuries by the public and paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to Nobles Hospital, but died later that evening.

The rider of the Honda motorcycle (a male from the UK) and the front seat passenger in the Nissan (a male from Northern Ireland) were also taken to hospital and have both subsequently been released.

Roads were closed for several hours whilst police investigations were conducted.

Investigations are continuing into this very sad incident. I would like to thank members of the public and marshals who stopped and assisted with first aid and traffic management at the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services. If anybody that has not already been spoken to by the police, who has either witnessed the collision, or has information in relation to it, to please get in touch with Roads Policing Unit at Headquarters on 01624 631212.
