World record bridge for Liverpool

Photo: Institute Civil Engineers

A world record breaking bridge is being built in Liverpool centre. Don't worry its not going to need planning permission or cause traffic chaos in the city. Because its made of Lego. That said it's a pretty impressive structure, 31 metres long, standing 3 metres high and will contain more than 200,000 individual bricks. Its going to be assembled on the top floor of The Capital Building on Old Hall Street

We’ll be encouraging school groups to visit the bridge once term starts, because schools are always looking for fun ways of introducing pupils to engineering. Maybe some of the children who come to marvel at this bridge will start to think about becoming a civil engineer one day
