Commuters in Cheshire will make their first journeys to work over the new Mersey Gateway this morning.

But the controversy over tolls continues with many people opposed to the charges for using the crossing. The government says the tolls will disappear as soon as the bridge is paid for. Those against the charges say the bridge is unaffordable.
