Greater Manchester Mayor: northern commuters need more rail compensation than the South

Greater Manchester's Mayor says there should be a special compensation scheme for rail passengers in the North.

Northern admit they haven't delivered the best service and have apologised to customers.

The transport secretary wants the same compensation scheme across the whole rail network.

But Andy Burnham says circumstances are different in the North:

Here people often only have a train service to rely on. There's no Tube that they can go and get if train services aren't running.

People have faced much bigger financial penalties through taxi fares, extra child care costs, hotel bills sometimes...
